Hungarian Duck
Breed descriptionThe Hungarian duck is a local breed that has been raised for centuries in Transylvania (historical region inhabited by Hungarian, now a part of Romania) and in Hungary. It is most commonly bred in the wild and white color varieties. Occasionally, it also exists in other color varieties (e.g. black, mottled). In the past, the Rouen Duck was crossed with the wild variety and the Peking duck with the white variety to improve their productivity. A crested variety also exists.Do not confuse this with the “Hungarian ducks” sold in supermarkets (those are Peking ducks commercially produced in Hungary). |
