German Laying Goose
Breed descriptionGerman laying goose was created by crossing various German breeds of white-feathered geese (e.g. Leine Goose, Saxon and Upper Silesian local goose breeds) in Saxony in the 1930s. The Slovak White Goose was likely used as well. The goal was to achieve the best possible productive traits (high production of eggs, feathers, and meat) and good utilization of pasture. The breed registry was established in 1941, and the breed standard was adopted in 1958. Today, it is classified as a critically endangered goose breed. In 2024, there were 182 females and 76 males being raised in 43 breeding facility in Germany. |
